Big Gains for Thunderbird and Mako3 in Aug 15, 2025 Golf Disc Rankings 4-Week Roundup

Thunderbird Soars, Mako3 Finds Its Moment

The Aug 15, 2025 Golf Disc Rankings are in, and it’s safe to say Thunderbird fans are feeling rather smug. After loitering in the mid-60s last month, it’s now sitting proudly at #40—a 21-place climb that makes it the chart’s biggest jumper. That’s not your average “hey, I threw this once and liked it” move. This sounds more like a bunch of throwers re-discovering an old favourite and deciding, en masse, to bring it back into rotation.

Top 10: No Revolutions, but Steady Shifts

Elsewhere, the top of the table behaves like a dinner party where no one wants to give up their seat. Buzzz continues its unyielding reign at #1, a masterclass in both disc performance and brand familiarity. The Hex and Destroyer are equally steadfast, parked at #2 and #3 without a wobble. You could almost mistake them for fixtures in the clubhouse wallpaper.

But one disc did sneak through: Innova’s Mako3. It crept into the #9 spot from #12, swapping elbows with putting royalty while looking deceptively low-key. It’s not flashy, but reliable appeal often isn’t. In a time of flashy mould drops and signature hype cycles, the Mako3’s rise reads like a quiet rebellion from players favouring smooth glide and predictable lines over chaos.

Wraith and Mamba Edge Upward

A touch further down, the Wraith proved that nostalgia still sells. Climbing two spots to #6, it continues to ride a loyal fanbase’s continuous enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the Mamba, with all the subtlety of a Sidewinder after half a pint of espresso, slithered up to #10. A very understandable temptation for those chasing long S-curves without needing to put their full shoulder into it.

Behind the Curtain: Familiarity Breeds Content

So what nudges a disc from languishing in the 60s to trusted Top 40 territory? It’s rarely just flight numbers. Familiarity, word of mouth, and a few well-placed social media shoutouts often do more for rankings than any engineering tweak. The Thunderbird ticked all those boxes—and so, too, arguably did the Mako3—which is worth remembering the next time you’re tempted by a limited-run Proto-Swish Overload X.

Next Up: Who’s Knocking at the Top 10 Gate?

We’ll be watching discs like the Diamond and River closely—both have momentum and just the right mix of control and friendliness to ascend further. And with spots #6–#10 practically breathing on each other, the next 4-week chart could get very fidgety indeed.
