Top 5 Disc Golf Discs Friday August 8, 2025

This week, the Mamba did something rarely seen from an extremely understable driver—it hissed its way into the Top 10. Innova’s Mamba jumped five places to claim the #9 position, and frankly, that’s no small feat in a sea of stability-obsessed throwers. Clearly, there’s growing affection for the floaty finesse shot, or maybe we’re all just craving a bit of shot-shaping mischief.

But the real eyebrow-raiser this week is Discmania’s Astronaut. Up 116 ranks in just four weeks to land at #152? That’s not so much a climb as a launch sequence. While its name might seem aspirational, the data suggests something far more grounded: a spike in new player experimentation. The Astronaut’s very understable profile makes it an easy flier—especially attractive when your form is developing and your ego’s still intact.

Elsewhere, things are simmering gently. The top two stay unchanged, with the Buzzz and Hex holding at #1 and #2 respectively. The Berg climbed a notch to #3, perhaps buoyed by Euro love as it stays top of the charts in Europe yet again. The Destroyer swapped spots with it, slipping to #4—hardly a crisis, but worth watching if it continues.

The MVP Trail quietly stepped over the Wraith for #7, a swap that hints at changing driver preferences, especially in Oceania, where the Trail has become something of a staple. Shifting regional tastes often serve as an early signal before global momentum kicks in.

Further down, Discraft’s Zone re-entered the Top 10 at #10 with a slight nudge. Overstable feel in an approach disc is like marmalade on toast—polarising, but intensely satisfying when it works.

At the tail end of the Top 15, Latitude 64’s Diamond keeps shining at #15, marking steady interest in lightweight drivers for newer arms or crafty woods play.

Meanwhile, the bottom of the chart is wildly bustling. Thirty-one new or returning discs popped in this week, but none made it into the Top 40. Still, a few like the Crank and the Kratos managed respectable jolts—possibly helped by retailers dusting off back stock and re-upping hype.

The Buzzz continues its rule with 15 straight weeks at #1, a streak so consistent it makes metronomes look disorganised. But if this week tells us anything, it’s that anything truly can ascend—sometimes all it takes is a little understability and a lot of love.

Will someone finally dethrone the Buzzz? Could another wild climber launch skyward? Find out in next Friday’s rankings.
