Top-ranked discs on Friday July 25, 2025
This week, we’ve witnessed a bit of disc golf whiplash. One disc has gone full Nosferatu-from-the-coffin while another’s put on a cape and flown up nearly 90 spots. Let’s talk about the Ballista and the Leopard3.
First, the Ballista. Latitude 64’s distance bomber isn’t just heating up—it’s boiling. It’s leapt a staggering 87 spots in four weeks, now kissing the heels of the Top 90 at #97. That’s not subtle. That’s the behavioural echo of FOMO meets fairway. A previously overlooked disc gets a few YouTube mentions, possibly a hero throw or two in a tournament, and suddenly everyone’s wondering why they ever shelved their Ballista in favour of a stock Destroyer.
Then there’s Innova’s Leopard3, back from sabbatical and into #26 after seven weeks off the grid. That’s not a comeback. That’s a rebranding. It left quietly, no drama. Now it returns to a Top 40 full of unfamiliar faces—but clearly someone’s been whispering its name. Possibly into the ear of a tour pro. Or maybe at the local doubles league where it pierced a forest line like a photon torpedo. Either way, its reappearance isn’t accidental. This is resurgence driven by feel and familiarity—two remarkably sticky psychological biases.
Meanwhile, we’ve got a calm Top 10. Everything from the Buzzz (still #1, still smug about it) to the Luna holds firm. The Destroyer continues to quietly radiate menace at #3, while Axiom continues its disco with the Hex and Crave at #2 and #4 respectively. Basically, no one’s rocking the top podiums—yet. The Wave does flirt upward to #14, nudging past River, but otherwise it’s calm seas at the summit.
Elsewhere, MVP’s Resistor looks like it hit a nerve, surging +56 spots to #81. And let’s not ignore Infinite’s Artifact, which exited the wormhole at #161—a 111-spot gain, powered possibly by sheer curiosity and the collector impulse.
A final word on geography: Americans still gravitate towards Blizzards and Bergs. Europe, predictably, can’t quit the Berg-Reko combo, while Oceania offers a masterclass in hybrid driver loyalty, with the Trail and Wraith continuing their trans-Tasman tug-of-war.
So what will next week bring? Another ghost disc like the Leopard3 rising from obscurity? A shake-up in the top 5 now that the stagnant air is starting to crackle? Either way, I’d hedge against boredom. It’s disc golf—stability’s just another term for temporary calm.
