The British Disc Golf Association's Tour 2000 is heading for a grandstand finish with only two tournaments remaining. The contenders for the championship are defending champion Derek Robins, Sam Nielsen and Simon Luard. The last few seasons have been dominated by Robins. However this season has seen other players showing consistant good form. There is particular interest in this year's champion as the winner will go forward to the World Games in Tokyo in 2001 to represent Great Britain. Disc golf's inclusion as a medal sport in the World Games is a big step forward for the sport on the world circuit. Before the Caledonian Open in Edinburgh there was only 7 points separating the three players. A close contest in Edinburgh finished with Robins winning, followed by Nielsen and Luard so it's still all to play for. The next tournament in Burnlaw near Newcastle and the final tournament at the re-modelled course at Essex University in Colchester promise to be very interesting encounters for the contenders. |
