Ullapool is a beautiful town on the north west coast of Scotland. It is popular with tourists, welcoming thousands of visitors every
year from all over the world. Ullapool now has something else to
offer local people and tourists alike, a disc golf course.
The course is flat, simple, short and well sign posted. The 9 baskets
are different to standard baskets, however they still make adequate
targets. The tees are grass and well marked. More experienced players
will have a lot of fun on the course. It doesn't take long to go
round the nine and once you've finished you just want to go round
again, and again. The course is perfect for first time players and
great for families playing together. The other consideration is the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Whilst we were there seals were popping their heads out the
water to see what was going on. The town is very lively over
the summer months boasting some great pubs and restaurants.
To celebrate the opening, BDGA members journeyed north to
support the weekend activity, Derek Robins, Trevor Betchel,
Liam Young, Spencer Worth, Richard Sampson, Fiona Lowethal
and Jo King.
Friday afternoon was busy on the course as a lot of local
players came down to play after school. Saturday was the big day. There was a healthy interest in the activity and the course was buzzing with players of all ages. As people came and went the raffle and barbecue were doing good business. At the end of the day over £500 was raised for Highland Hospice. Course manager, Donald Ross would like to thank everyone who donated prizes to the raffle and to others who have offered their support to the project. Mr Ross is doing a great job putting the course together and organising activity on the site. As the good word spreads the course will surely establish itself in the community. Visitors to Ullapool, particularly families, will be attracted to the fun and simplicity of this outdoor activity. All the family can play/compete together and it doesn't break the bank.
