The Bongos are trying to develop their Youth Development Scheme by signing two new talents currently learning their trade at Elthorne Park, Ealing, West London. Rob MacPherson and Monty ? are tipped (by the Bongos) to be top players for the future. Both played in the Junior Division at their first tournament back in July, the Pro/Am Classic. They can be found training at the park on most Sundays.
Unbeatable A back garden in West London has been the scene of some tough international competitions over the summer. Spencer Worth, Bongos player, and candidate for this year's most improved player award, has a basket set up in his garden. Well known for his generous hospitality, Worth's home has been a haven for wandering golfers. In July, their was a visit from two crazy Americans, Steve and Chicken from Virginia. With the basket set nicely in the back garden, a putting contest, England v USA was unavoidable. Worth teamed up with fellow Brit Bongo Rich Sampson. It was close, but Steve and Chicken lost. A week after the British Open a second pair of international visitors stayed a few days and tried to 'Beat the Bongos' in Spencer's back garden. The contestants were David Eaby and Ricki Dietrich from Switzerland. Again it was close, but the Swiss couldn't match the putting power of the home team. So Fortress Worth remains, perhaps the last bastion of great British sporting arenas. |
