Ullapool is a remote small town on the North West coast of Scotland. Local businessmen Donald Ross has introduced a 9 basket disc golf course to the town. His family already run a ball golf course and Ross wants to promote Ullapool as a 'multi golf' resort. The project is gradually winning the support of local people. The problem that Ross is having is persuading locals that disc golf is a sport that does exist and isn't a product of his lively imagination! To draw interest and support from local people, Ross is organising an activity weekend on 30 Sept/1 Oct. The weekend is also raising funds for a deserving local cause the Highland Hospice. Disc golf will be the heart beat of the event supported by other activities and entertainment. Services and businesses are lending their support and a good turn out from locals should make for a great weekend for Ullapool and for the Highland Hospice. As participation and interest in disc golf grows worldwide, Ullapool is a great example of how this new sport is coming into communities and bringing people together. One of the most appealing factors off this recreation/sport is that anyone and everyone can play and it's easy to pick up. New courses are crucial to the continued development of disc golf in Great Britain so the innovation and spirit being shown in Ullapool is great news. To add further support to the efforts of local people, a number of Britain's top disc golfers will be joining up with local players to play. Amongst them will be Derek Robins - National Director for the British Disc Golf Association and eight times and current British Champion. Also playing will be Richard Sampson, Liam Young, Spencer Worth and Trevor Betchel, all top 16 ranked players in the UK. If any other players are interested in coming along contact Richard Sampson The nearest big town/airport is Inverness.
