Essex University in Colchester is the the oldest permanent basket course in Great Britain. This year as a result of building work on the campus a number of the holes were no longer playable. The university wanted to keep the 18 basket course and promised to get the baskets re located. Local player Simon Luard and Andy Lucey have worked with the university to redesign the course. Andy Lucey has been in touch with OB and wants the world and his dog to come along, check out the new course and throw some plastic on its unofficial launch day, Sunday September 17. Andy, Simon and Guy Luard will be there all day to answer criticism from all wannabe course designers! The new course is made up of 9 par 4's and 9 par 3's. I don't have any information as yet on how many original holes remain and how many got the chop. Either way it should be interesting to see the changes. Essex is the last tournament on the regular BDGA Tour and is planned for 7/8 October. As always everyone is welcome to play. enquiries |
